Why do we need to study?

There are probably many different reasons due to which you want an answer to this question. It can be a lack of motivation or purpose, or just the fact that what you learn, how it is applicable in real life?

Whatever it might be, we are here to put your doubts to rest. So get a pen and paper and write down with us all the reasons to study.

First off, why do we study maths and science if none of these concepts help us in daily life?

Let’s use an illustration to address this. When we work out at the gym, we perform a variety of exercises like bench presses and bicep curls, but how frequently do we need to perform a motion similar to a bicep curl to pick up anything in our daily lives? We perform these exercises to build muscle and strength in our bodies so that we can respond to any event in life that calls for strength or muscle.

Similarly, all these mathematics theorems and science facts we learn, we do it to develop a mental muscle so that we can use that in the real world, also because we must think better and act better than animals. We study so that we can make sense of the world around us.

Secondly, Think about what you want to achieve in life. Is it an admission in a particular college? or to become an astronaut? Or some other profession?

All these things demand analytical thinking, understanding of the core concepts and practice. You need to prove that you are worthy of what you want to achieve.

Thirdly, Work for the need of feeling a sense of purpose in life. This is what differentiates us from other creatures on this planet that we can choose our own purpose. When we study to become who we want to become we remain engaged with life and learn from our lives or others’ and also learn to live better.

After studying, when we fulfill our goals, we get a feeling of contentment and accomplishment that we have achieved something in life, that we have fulfilled our purpose in life.

Fourth comes appreciation, for example, we study history because, we need to know where we have come from in order to appreciate where we are going. What takes us there is science and politics, that’s why we study those subjects.

We all have a place which we call home, if not homes made of stones and bricks, this planet earth is our home, we must know how to maintain it well and how to navigate around it, that’s why we study geography.

Most of us want to be a participant in building our future both as individuals and as humans. For that also we need to study.

Fifth, To make a living in life we need to build a strong foundation for something or find a job, for that we need to study in school, get a degree and do post graduation courses if necessary.

Today we learnt many reasons as to why we should study, most of these reasons you don’t need to apply, they are automatically applied when you study.

Let’s study willingly and honestly to build a strong foundation for Humanity!!
